There’s the sun out!
The first rays of spring sun are fighting their way through the rain-stained, dust-covered windows. It’s hardly conducive to productivity, is it?And when the sun finally battles its way to your desk, it only wants to focus on the pile of dust tucked up behind the monitor – which draws your attention to that mouldy coffee cup that you thought you’d left in the meeting room last week and, worse, the box of Celebrations left over from the Christmas party. They may still taste OK though ... check the date!
t’s A Health-Hazard Sir, But Not As We Know It Crikey. Actually what you should be doing instead of tucking into dubious chocolate is finding a professional Cleaners to help you keep the office clean. In all seriousness, how often do you snack at your desk, or even eat lunch? If you don’t keep your workspace clean it’s going to start calling an army of germs and bacteria to wage war on your business; staff will start falling ill (mould really isn’t great for you – no, penicillin isn’t grown in your old coffee mug!); staff will be off work as they hurtling around trying to find some health; and your business will go downhill.
Save Yourself If you’re one of those lucky people who work in a well-kept, frequently professionally cleaned office you’ll be laughing at this thinking it’s some kind of crazy cleaning tragic-comedy, but honestly, I’ve seen it. I was there. I cleaned it. Office cleaners London are good when it comes to office cleaning.
Keep Your Own Space Clear If your business can’t or won’t stretch to a professional cleaner there are things you can do to make sure at least your desk isn’t a biohazard.
Well it may seem obvious, but clear plates, cups, glasses and rubbish away as soon as you’ve finished.
To reduce piles of things that need to be cleaned, I have a litre-jug of water and one glass at my desk, I top up the jug twice a day and use the same glass – at the end of the day they both go into the dishwasher.
Around the highest traffic area of your desk it’s worth keeping a packet of anti-bacterial surface wipes to clean away grubby finger marks and spills.
Have a bin next to your desk, and a roll of plastic bags in your drawer. The bags are crucial otherwise you’ll get stains, muck and grim painted, then welded, onto the bottom and sides of the bin.
To fill a range of roles also keep some tumble-drier sheets in your drawer. Firstly they can sit in the bottom of your bin gently disguising the stench of lunch; secondly, dampen one and use it to give your desk (and all its bits and bobs) a quick wipe over at the end of the day, it’ll remove dust and the static that attracts the dust in the first place and leave it smelling scrummy for the following morning. Paper is the biggest nuisance. When you’re finished with it, recycle it; if it’s confidential stick it through a shedder (get your own for less than a tenner!).You’ll find people work far more effectively and enjoy being in their workspace very much more if it’s clean and tidy.
